Episode 498: Everyone Deserves Music with Scott - 14 April 2024 (Hole Special)

On my 1994 Time Machine segment - 12 April 1994, grief stricken Courtney Love - whose iconic husband Kurt Cobain had committed suicide only days earlier - released her band Hole's second album, "Live Through This" - a title that would seem prophetic given the reverberating shockwaves, Cobain's suicide sent through a generation of music fans globally. In a year of extraordinary releases by the likes of Soundgarden, Cranberries, Jeff Buckley, Ween and Oasis to name a few, I rated "Live Through This" as my equal favourite album from that year alongside Pavement's 'Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain'. Critics agreed. Pitchfork rated it a perfect 10, Rolling Stone 5 stars, the latter noted that "Love delivers punk not only as insinuating as Nirvana's but as corrosive as the Sex Pistols'. On this show I play each song from this landmark album. On Wax Lyrical we get up close to Def Leppard's sophomore album "High 'N' Dry". And I find room for new releases from Gauci, Charm of Finches, Waxahatchee, Snowy Band, Grace Cummings and Little Quirks.
