Today is World Fisheries Day! In this special ocassion we speak with Giorgiano Margaglio, from the Northern Lights Journey. He holds a bachelor in Global Governance from the University of Rome, and a Disaster Risk Management and Climate Adaptation MSc from Lund University. This has led to his current position as a disaster and risk management contractor at the UNDP in Istanbul, position in which he deals with different emergencies such as tsunamis, earthquakes or pandemics and requires him to efficiently adapt to new situations. As an exemplary Italian, he's in love with pizza, and more importantly, is the cofounder of Ostia Clean-Up, a Rome-based organization which started two years ago as a beach cleanup meeting between 3 friends, and now is a fully operational entity which also collaborates with school to increase environmental awareness. This idea is rooted by his time in Indonesia, where he observed the vast amount of plastics that showed ashore in the Coast of Sumatra. Listen to this episode to hear more about this initiative, a successful example of community environmental activism, and don't forget to check out their webpage and social media channels!
