Transit workers return to bargaining table with SEPTA, amid doubts that the agency is committed to a pay raise

SEPTA's largest workers union resumed contract talks with the transit agency this morning. While SEPTA has said it wants to be able to offer wage increases in a new contract, the union says it has seen no evidence of that at the bargaining table. The contract expired Thursday night for the union representing five-thousand drivers, cashiers and maintenance workers. But all operations are continuing to run as normal. Transport Workers Union Local 234 president Brian Pollitt acknowledged some progress in a statement, but said if SEPTA doesn’t meet the union’s demands for raises and safety, his union will hit the picket line.
