“The vulnerability the masses desire and appreciate comes with transparency and risk. Exposing your weaknesses and humanity as a leader can lead to blind spots being exposed you are not aware of. A great team will know when you have blind spots and your inner circle will expose them only to you. A team member who is not sold out to the team but to self will see those blind spots and exploit them, perhaps even capitalize on them. This sort of betrayal happens at every level of leadership from scouts to the White House, from the sanitation workers to the Royal Guard, from pick up basketball to the NBA. Know your Achilles heal, your natural weaknesses as a human, your personal weaknesses as an individual and your organizational weaknesses as a team. The moment you risk being authentic, vulnerable and transparent, you risk it all. Do so wisely. ”
