Day Seventeen: Pacific Ocean
Manage episode 360165827 series 1062645
I was rather taken aback by the reaction to my demo of “Pacific Ocean”. I mean, I know people were being rather nice, but it felt good to have such positive feedback. I started off the RPM with a couple of songs I felt pretty good about and a collection of throwaways and it’s been turning on me. As the parts gel, the songs are really coming together and getting stronger. I wasn’t expecting that this year.
The song is pretty silly. It’s based on a cartoon I saw on Facebook.
I wrote some silly lyrics, Clarke added some fun keys, and I dug in on harmony vocals. Oh, and I finally played a bass part I sort of like. That only took 12 years.
Iâ€m proud of you, you made it this far, Itâ€s been a challenging year
Youâ€ve stared it down, youâ€ve faced head on, A triumph over fear
As if you needed more to think about, In times such as these
Your brain fires up as the lights go out, And leaves you with this decree
Every C in “Pacific Ocean is pronounced differently
Take some time to roll that around, tell me what it means
Every C in “Pacific Ocean is pronounced differently
Close your eyes now, go to sleep
You hoped for safety, a blessed respite, From all the trials of the day
You knew you could make it despite the strife, You knew you could find a way
You smile to yourself, youâ€re satisfied, You let out a contented sigh
How could you know one you closed your eyes, Youâ€d deal with this surprise
Every C in “Pacific Ocean is pronounced differently
Take some time to roll that around, tell me what it means
Every C in “Pacific Ocean is pronounced differently
Close your eyes now, go to sleep
You have disease on the news and election results
And politicians who need a muzzle
Yet just when youâ€re ready to drift off to sleep
Your brain gives you this puzzle
Every C in “Pacific Ocean is pronounced differently
Take some time to roll that around, tell me what it means
Every C in “Pacific Ocean is pronounced differently
Close your eyes now, go to sleep
Close your eyes now, go to sleep
Go ahead now, try to sleep
