It was J.T. Realmuto’s turn to be the hero as his 2-out, bottom of the 9th RBI single walked it off for the Phillies as they beat the New York Mets, 2-1! His hit helped take Cristopher Sanchez off the hook after an incredible start by the Phillies’ lefty!

Cristopher Sanchez made his 29th start of the season and threw 7-plus innings allowing just 1 run on a homer to Tyrone Taylor in the 8th inning. He was pulled in favor off Orion Kerkering who recorded all three outs in the 8th. Sanchez was masterful in his start, needing just 87 pitches to get into the 8th, throwing 69 of them for strikes. He was up 0-2 on 11 batters in the game and struck out 7.

Again, a newcomer helped pick the Phillies up, this time it was Buddy Kennedy. Weston Wilson led off the bottom of the 8th with a double, then came around to score when Kennedy smacked a low slider into the left field corner for a game-tying RBI double.

In the 9th inning, Nick Castellanos got things going with a 1-out single to right. Then, as Alec Bohm struck out for the 2nd out of the inning, Castellanos stole 2nd base for his 6th solen base of the season. With Casty in scoring position, first base now open, and Realmuto’s .385 batting average against Mets’ Closer Edwin Diaz, most people thought the Mets would walk JT. They didn’t. Realmuto made them pay for that decision when he walked it off when he drove an 0-2 fastball into right field to bring home Castellanos!

The Phillies and Mets better get used to each other as they’ll start a 4-game series in just 4 days. The Phillies head to Milwaukee for a 3 game series with the Brewers, while the Mets head back to Flushing for a 3-game series with the Nationals.
