Melissa Holgado joins Alexis and Lauren to share the renovation story about Red Hill, a historical federal-style plantation home with enslaved quarters built in 1825 in central Virginia on 40 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains.
Melissa and her family dream of restoring Red Hill, transforming its somber energy into a place of dignity and respect, a respite from a busy life. But this is not your regular remodel: there was no running water, plumbing, or electricity, and it sat untouched for many years.
It is a project of love. Melissa acknowledges the privilege of owning it and practices gratitude for its place in history. This conversation has many layers, making you think about all the details that make a house a home.
