In this limited run series, I will be exploring the pioneers that have shaped and influenced the EDM we have today. In this episode I will be featuring “Eric Prydz”. Eric Prydz started out a DJ and Producer in the earlier 2000’s as a progressive house and techno DJ. He later relocated to Los Angles and gained a massive hit with the 2004 track “Call On Me”. Take a listen to it here. “Call On Me” was a defining track for the EDM era with its influences in EDM and Pop. Eric sampled Steve Winwood hit “Valerie” which gave the track its catchy pop hook and merged new and old music. This sample also gave the song mainstream acceptance which allowed it to be played on the radio. “Call On Me” also had an iconic music video featuring suggestive choreography also made it the most talked about track. All these things combined pushed this song to mainstream success and made it influential in the further development of EDM.
