MayorsManor Podcast with NHL goalie Marty Turco
Manage episode 32531445 series 23989
After 543 games played in the National Hockey League, goaltender Marty Turco may have manned his last crease...or he might not have. Much like the NHL lockout, Turco's future remains to be determined.
At the moment, he's an unrestricted free agent and can sign with any team interested once play resumes. But, does he want to come back? He believes he has plenty left in the tank - enough to be a starting goalie for several more years actually. Yet, is he willing to put his mind, body and family through the grind again?
On today's MayorsManor show we'll talk about what the future may hold, plus look back at his career with the Dallas Stars, Chicago Blackhawks and brief stop with the Boston Bruins. We'll also get into his younger years, when he went undrafted in the OHL, won two NCAA Championships at Michigan and spent time with the 'black aces' during the Stanley Cup Final in 1999.
His 1.72 goals-against average in 2002-03 set the modern NHL record and he went on to re-write the Stars' goaltending marks for games played, wins, shutouts and a handful of other categories. On top of all that, few goalies over the last decade have had as much success against the LA Kings as Turco did - yet, in an interesting statistic, he has fewer wins against the Kings than vs. any other Pacific Division opponent.
We'll dig deeper on all those topics and hit these other areas as well today...
