There is no disputing that America is at a place that we've not been since the 1860's. We really are two separate nations. Our differences appear to be irreconcilable. Therefore, instead of taking up arms and killing our fellow citizens over politics and whether we should convert from a Democratic Republic to an Authoritarian form of government, why not negotiate a civil separation and create the Red States of America and the Blue States of America? Each state can hold referendums on which side they'd like to align themselves with. We can negotiate all of the various aspects of future cooperation and revenue agreements among the two new countries, elect respective head's of state, representatives and such. Each state could enact it's own border policies, taxation policies and welfare policies. Interstate travel would be negotiated, civil liberties would have to be agreed to in advance, but Blue States would be responsible for their affairs, and likewise for the Red States. A joint defense pact would be negotiated as well. This way, we can avoid the obvious bloodshed that would arise if we do it the old fashioned way. We discuss this and much more.
