Bro. Billy Compton -- 8/22/18 -- God's Promise to the Generous -- Phil 4:14-23
Manage episode 216012705 series 2362272
GOD’S PROMISE TO THE GENEROUS
Philippians 4:14-23
Paul gives three reasons for being a
generous giver and three insights about
the results of generous giving.
REASONS FOR GENEROUS GIVING
- MY GIVING IS AN ENCOURAGEMENT.
“Yet it was good of you to share in my troubles. Moreover, as you Philippians know, in the early days of your acquaintance with the gospel, when I set out from Macedonia, not one church shared with me in the matter of giving and receiving, except you only;” (vs. 14-15 NIV).
- MY GIVING IS AN INVESTMENT.
“Not that I desire your gifts; what I desire is that more be credited to your account” (vs. 17 NIV).
- MY GIVING IS AN ACCEPTABLE SACRIFICE.
“I am amply supplied, now that I have received… the gifts you sent. They are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God (vs. 18 NIV).
RESULTS OF GENEROSITY
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus (vs. 14 KJV).
- GOD ASSUMES RESPONSIBILITY FOR MEETING OUR NEEDS.
- GOD PROMISES TO MEET OUR NEEDS.
- GOD DECLARES THAT OUR NEEDS WILL BE MET ACCORDING TO HIS RICHES.
The book of Philippians has two major themes: joy and giving. Joy and giving go together.
“Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously” …And God is able to make all grace abound to you…” (2 Corinthians 9:6-8 NIV).
Sunday School begins at 10:00am EST with Morning Worship beginning at 11:00am EST. Evening Worship begins at 6:00pm EST
Wednesday Prayer Meeting begins at 7:00pm EST
