On Saturday, August 24, 2024, Prosecutor Ambrogio Cartosio from Sicily’s Termini Imerese announced an investigation into whether the actions, or inactions, of the crew members contributed to the sinking of the Bayesian, which resulted in the deaths of seven individuals, as reported by the BBC. Potential charges of criminal manslaughter and negligent shipwreck may be considered for certain individuals aboard the 184-foot luxury sailing yacht, which went down near Porticello in northern Sicily on August 19, 2024, following a sudden and severe storm that struck the area around 4:00 a.m.
According to a report by CNN on Monday morning, the investigation also encompasses the ship’s captain, 51-year-old James Cutfield from New Zealand.
