Nathan Hightman, the boyfriend of Irene Gakwa, a nursing student from Wyoming, has been sentenced to a prison term of three to six years and ordered to pay $13,200 in fines and restitution after admitting to charges of theft and unlawful use of credit cards. This occurred following Gakwa's disappearance in 2022, during which Hightman was found to have misappropriated her funds and accessed her credit accounts, as well as deleting her email account.
During a sentencing hearing on Wednesday, Judge James M. Mike Causey of the Campbell County District Court imposed the sentence on the 39-year-old resident of Gillette, as reported by the Gillette News Record. The prison sentences will be served concurrently with a suspended two- to three-year sentence related to intellectual property offenses. Additionally, upon his release, Hightman will be subject to three years of supervised probation, as stated by the news outlet.
The judge has mandated that Hightman pay a total of $13,200 in fines, fees, and restitution.
