Tony Diaz speaks with Sarah Rucker, one of the organizers for the event that is produced by Texas Folklife, and Randall Jackson, who's group RJ & Kreole Soul will be performing at the show. Tony & Sarah discuss the event and RJ provides great insight into the confluence of cultures that share the accordion. Besides the interviews, we will feature music from the following artists who will be featured at the 33rd Annual Accordion Kings & Queens. - RJ & Kreole Smoove: Zydeco & Creole music featuring accordionist and touring musician Randall Jackson, who also won Texas Folklife’s Big Squeeze statewide accordion contest championship in 2014. - Las Fenix: Consisting of five sisters from Houston, Texas, this Norteño phenom has been on the rise and recently released their latest single Diganle just last year. - Cameron Dupuy & the Cajun Troubadours: Accordionist Cameron Dupuy not only won the Big Squeeze in 2021 but won 8 other contest titles before that and plays alongside his father Michael Dupuy in the band who received a Grammy nomination for their debut self-titled album, “Cameron Dupuy and the Cajun Troubadours” in late 2020. Lastly, but always in first in our hearts, we moved forward with the show even in the shadows of the horrible tragedy in Uvalde recently. We pay our respects with a moment of silence but also feel it's necessary to produce this show; as RJ mentions in the interview, "...musicians are the healers of this world, healers of the land, we can get to people through our music, that's how powerful music is..."
