Peace talks in Istanbul bring a glimmer of hope as both Ukrainian and Russian delegates meet face to face in Istanbul. Is there hope of scaling down? The talks just commenced on 28 March, and face to face talks in Turkey are definitely a clear positive. There was news of some proposals being tabled for the first time by Ukraine. Some positive signalling emerged about accepting neutral status, about being demilitarised i.e. not joining a security alliance like NATO. Unfortunately, good diplomacy needs space — something not available in the trench wars on Twitter. There is the whiff of consensus perhaps.
