It's episode 12! Today we're going back to the Revolutionary War! During a time period of religious enthusiasm, a future preacher awoke after a near-fatal illness proclaiming the previous self's soul had died and the body was recharged with the spirit of a Prophet, genderless and pronounless, named the Public Universal Friend.
Some claimed the Friend was a fraud, while most scholars now regard the Friend as an early figure of transgender history in Colonial America. Join us while we navigate through using no possessive pronouns, how the podcast almost turned true crime, and listen in when a spirit with a strong Southern twang came through Domenica while she was trying to pronounce "nonbinary".
