Jill is from my birthplace, Mississippi and in this episode we recollect our omniscient little southern girls to our wise Black woman selves who have taken up professions to heal and set right what racism has set all upside down and inside out. Jill, my friends, is indeed a dragon slayer.

We speak the truth about the perpetrators in order to flip those abuses to freedom. So, you know we are speaking about any abuse, because truth and spirit are like water, all there ever was is, is all there ever was and when you stop damming it up the truth and speak it freely through your spirit, the abuse in the house can’t exist, the abuse at the job can’t exist, the abuse on social media can’t exist. In this episode y’all, listen for our ceremonies of putting an MF out of your house, of going to the ocean to scream it out, and of establishing a monthly freedom day to keep yourself grounded and whole. Enjoy this conversation y’all.

About Jill:

Jill Collen Jefferson, a civil and human rights attorney who grew up in the racism and de facto segregation of rural Mississippi, was trained by the leaders of the civil rights movement. She was mentored by Julian Bond, the organization’s namesake, who taught her civil rights history and strategy. She learned the nuances of civil rights policy from Congressman John Lewis, and she learned how to implement those policies while in President Barack Obama's White House before conveying them to the nation as one of four speechwriters on President Obama's 2012 campaign. With experience on Capitol Hill, at think-tanks, Organizing for Action, the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, the Public International Law and Policy Group, and big law, she brings her depth of knowledge and personal experience to build the future of civil and human rights. Find her on Instagram at: @jill_collen_jefferson, on Twitter @julian_crhr, and on her website at https://www.julianlegal.com/
