The healing of the man by the pool in John 5 is another wonderful encounter of Jesus with the lost--this one symbolizes man's inability and the need to believe the bad news of the Gospel (our depravity and what it deserves) before receiving the good news of the Gospel (the beauty and necessity of Christ). But the reaction of the religious leaders to Jesus' healing on the Sabbath introduces the theme of opposition to Christ which will eventually lead to His death.-The encounter with the lame man at the pool displays Christ's deity and pictures and teaches of the salvation He brings. The subsequent dispute over the Sabbath gives Jesus opportunity to clarify His deity as the second Person of the Trinity and Mediator between God and man. And only through Him is there everlasting life and no judgment, for He gives life and has taken judgment.-I. Lord of Creation: Healing the Sick (vv1-9)II. Lord of Re-creation: Healing the Sin (vv10-15)III. Lord of Life (and Death): Father and Son (vv16-24)
