What does the upcoming year look like? Because it feels like it's gonna be an upward climb. We live in a very different world than just a few short years ago. The past is gone and, as always, the future is unknown. But the future now looks to be a bit more shaky than usual. The context of this passage is Israel's time in Babylonian captivity. They were afraid. Their past was gone and the future looked shaky. That's when God speaks these words: "Fear not, for I have redeemed you. I have summoned you by name, you are mine." There's a great significance to God knowing our names. Names are important. They tell us who we are and to whom we belong. God knows our names. We are loved. That's what an experience of being known and loved by God generates in a life - faith. Most of the time we think that faith begins with believing the right things. But that's that's not true. The beginning of faith begins when we know who we are and to whom we belong. The beginning of faith begins with an experience of the love of God.
