BROWNSVILLE, Texas - SpaceX is about to bring another 300 engineers and technicians to its Starbase facility at Boca Chica.

This news was revealed by Kathryn Lueders, general manager of Starbase, at a luncheon event hosted by Brownsville Chamber of Commerce. Lueders was the keynote speaker for a program titled: “Bridging Borders & Beyond - The Impact of US-Mexico Relations and Space Exploration in the Rio Grande Valley.” It was held at Brownsville Events Center.

Lueders said: “So, we're investing. We feel like the Starbase and the Rio Grande Valley is our place to be able to run the Starship program, and so we're obviously investing in the people here to be able to do this mission.”

During her power point presentation, Lueders said she really liked one particular slide. It showed a group photo of hundreds of workers at Starbase. According to Wikipedia, by late 2023, over 2,1000 full-time employees were working at the site.

“Next slide. I love to show this picture because it really… we tend to show pictures of the rockets and the pads and the buildings, but really, it's about the people. None of this would be able to happen without the people, and so just seeing the folks there and the numbers that we have… we are actually in the process right now of really beginning another round of rampups, because we're bringing another 300 engineers and technicians to the Rio Grande Valley to help us (with) increasing our cadence for the missions that we have coming up,” Lueders said.

“And so, all this means that we need even more capabilities at Starbase to be able to take care of these people. It's why you see us building more houses, investing in schools in the different areas, looking at how can we continue to bring talent down here and attract as many people to this area? Because we want the best and brightest working at Starbase.”
