More or less every day, and for some of us many times each day perhaps, we read or hear of examples of tyranny, corruption and injustice. When feelings of upset over specific situations combine with the accumulated weight of many such instances, it can easily get under our skin and leave us feeling very vulnerable. I was feeling this way the other day and felt the Lord directing me, as so often, to the Psalms for an antidote. Psalm 10 stood out in particular, so I have adapted verses from it for this very brief meditation, with a bit of help from Isaiah, and then continued by way of some much more soothing and uplifting promises that help us to take the longer-term view. How much better to take our feelings – and the situations themselves – to the Lord in prayer than to seethe and rage! After all human annoyance and anger can never of themselves bring about the righteousness that God desires! (James 1:20) ‘Peace to the soul’ is one of the very first pieces of music that I composed (as opposed to songs for the Lord) back in 2013. May the music minister to you, along with the words, which I read with Sally Mowbray.
