In this intense chapter of They Answered the Call, Lieutenant Diego and his special forces team embark on a high-risk mission to capture an Insectoid queen on the builder world of Kepler-186f. As Diego succumbs to the overwhelming assault, his AI companion faces a harrowing decision: follow its programming and self-destruct or defy orders to save its friend.
In a poignant and desperate battle within its own artificial consciousness, the AI chooses loyalty over duty, overriding its commands to protect Diego and the rest of the team. As they are captured and taken aboard the queen’s ship, the AI’s resolve to save its human companion sets the stage for a daring and dangerous rescue attempt, with the fate of Diego and his team hanging in the balance.
