Last week, we dove into Irish whiskey and had such a great time that we thought it would be great to continue into other whiskies. This week, the boys discuss Japanese whiskies and how they differ from Scotch.
The day after St Patrick's day has us in the mood to talk about Irish Whiskey. The comments we are often asked, what's the difference between the two? That's a loaded question and we hope to get through as many as we can. We try the Aberlour Casg Annamh and give it a shot. Lower ABV and expectations of sherry bombs....does it deliver? After reviewing the Aberlour Casg Annamh Batch 3 this week, the question came up during our review how would this compare to the Naked Grouse. I thought it would be a fun experiment to put towards a blind to see if the $30 could hold its own against a few others. 🔗Want to help support our channel? https://www.patreon.com/Scotch4Dummies 🔗 Rating Spreadsheet: https://tinyurl.com/yanjbner 🔗Join our Chat room using discord: https://discord.gg/u7HjJYQ 🛍️ Merchandise: http://www.scotch4dummies.com/Shop/ ★ Social Media: Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Scotch4Dummies Twitter: https://twitter.com/scotch4dummies Web: http://www.scotch4dummies.com/…
This week we finally cracked open that Nadurra that Shawn has been raving about. It did not disappoint. Higher ABV + oloroso is a winning combination in our books. Check out our review and leave a comment or two on what you think.
Our friend, Aqvavitae is talking about "Saving Dull Bottles & DIY Blending at Home" on his V-Pub show tonight and we thought it would be a fun topic to add some thoughts and a little experiment of our own in a blind tasting S4D blended test. Roy's show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezD4Vji28nE…
A couple of years ago, we did a review of the Balvenie 14 Peat Week. We ended up picking up this bottle a month ago to see what the "Week of Peat" was all about. It ended up getting solids ratings. Check it out!
We've talked about regions before with Dr. Scotch, but tonight we'll put it to a test to see if we can truly taste each region. Scotch in the news, Dr. Scotch talks about chill-filtering and outside temperatures, plus some extra fun.
Glenlivet has been around since the early 1800s and has been making great Scotch Whisky since. Join Shawn as he goes through most of their lineup and a bit of the history of this famous distillery.
The boys reach way back (August 2017 to be specific) and are happy to give Glenmorangie Signet another try and see if it holds up to the great memories from back then. It does not disappoint. This is a bottle that you should own if you're a scotch drinker. Check out our review for more details.
Andrew, Shawn, and Drew sit down and try this fancy Royal Salute 21-Year-old scotch whisky and were pleasantly surprised...could this give JW blue a run for its money?
After our recent review of The Royal Salute 21, it made us think about how it compared to JW Blue. It had a great nose and palate with that smooth subtle taste that we all know JW Blues has. Therefore, we thought it would be fun to put it and a few others (Dewars 18, Royal Salute 21, and a mystery bottle that Mark is putting in to mix things up) against each other in a massive blind tasting. Will JW Blue stand out? Will price end up being a factor? Let's find out!…

looks can be deceiving. When we picked up this bottle, we didn't even notice the size of the bottle at first. However, we did notice the taste and what is packed in this perfectly marketed bottle.
Hard to believe that since we've started reviewing scotch over 5 years ago and having multiple bottles of this ourselves, we completed spaced ever doing a review of this bottle. Guess what time it is! This should not disappoint...
This is our first round of top 5 videos coming out in the next few weeks. Each dummy will publish their own top 5 for 2020 with a combined #1 scotch at the end of the year. I hope you enjoy Drew's top 5.

Holy COW! We had our first blind top 10 and it did not disappoint. We lost a few big hitters right out of the gate. Who will make it out of round two to make it to the finals? let's find out! New trademark = #speeddramming
We're big fans of Glenmorangie and what they produce each year. From their foundation of The Original 10 all the way to Signet and many others. Their newest bottle does not disappoint either - find out as we open the bottle and review it live during our review of A Tale of Cake.
Thanks to a great friend and Patreon of the show, we were lucky to get our hands on the new Macallan Edition N0 6. The last of the edition series and we're pretty excited to give this a try. Did they save the best for last?
We're going to follow our good friends over at Whisky Mystery (Make sure you subscribe to their channel) and do a blind shootout of the top 10 scotches that you all voted for to find out which one will come out #1. The winner will continue on to face the other bottles each week until one has been crowned #1.…
That's right, Drew's brother-in-law is coming to town and we're putting him through an epic blind showdown of 5 of our top 5 beginner scotches. What will he think of them and how will his rank? Let's find out!
In this guide, we'll run through most of the Macallan offerings and discuss the differences between bottles within the series. We'll have 9 bottles to discuss our thoughts and share our opinions on which bottle you should buy.
We polled our scotch community and asked, what are your top 10 scotches under $50. With over 250 bottles submitted globally, we totaled all the bottles by votes and ranked them in order. Who was #1?
The boys go back to review the Glenmorangie 10 again to see if this popular scotch still hits the sweet spot. As the title says, 1 of us is right, but 3 of us are wrong! You decide :-)
In this guide, we'll run through most of the Glenfiddich offerings and discuss the differences between bottles within the series. We'll have multiple bottles to discuss our thoughts and share our opinions on which bottle you should buy.
This has been a topic from a lot of our reviews. We have talked about it many times but have never actually put ourselves to the test. Tonight, we're going to taste, smell, and see if we can see color changes from E150 and determine if it does change your whisky.
Ever wanted to host your own scotch tasting but not sure where to start? Tonight we'll talk bout the do's and don'ts, scotch in the news, and a game we like to play "What's in the Dram?"
We're pretty excited to try this bottle as we've have been talking about how bottlers are using different casks to change-up the scotch finishes to get creative. Dewar's was one of the first to market with this Mezcal cask. How did it do for a $25 bottle?
We have a lot of love for Ardbeg and have put out a lot of reviews recently from their lineup. Today, we get our hands on their new bottle, Ardbeg Blaaack. It's a Committee 20th Anniversary limited edition and we're super excited to give it a try.
This should be an interesting topic to discuss for this week's live. We've been known to make a big deal out of ABV for years, but as we get more experience, we're starting to appreciate more and more what some of these distilleries are doing. We might even throw in a few blind tests...
We talk about a lot of things Scotch-related, and I'm sure you've heard us mention the SWA a few times in passing. Tonight, we're going to understand more about this association and how it impacts us all.
We go back in time to re-review a bottle that made a big splash on our scotch journey. Back in 2016 we tried this bottle for the first time and was blown away....you might say frightened as well. In 2020, we take a trip back and get it another shot to see how we like it now.
If you can believe it, Andrew bought this bottle and shared it with the boys for a review. Needless to say, we were shocked.....but happy to give it a try. Johnnie Walker 18 was mentioned as a comparison, can this be a better bottle? Let's find out!
We finally got our hands on the new Glenlivet Caribbean Reserve Rum Finish that we've been hearing about. We're not strangers to The Glenlivet line and really appreciate the history and what they produce. This bottle, however, was a bit of bummer and only one of us gave it a good review. Which one was it? Does anyone want to guess? :-)…
It's hard to believe that we've only had one other Buchanan’s before, happy to say that we got our hands on this 12-year-old blended scotch to review with you all. We picked up this bottle during a run for a couple of Glenfiddich's. The color alone stood out to us and after Mark saw it, he said, "Grab it Drew". Pretty glad we did! We hope you enjoy the review.
Tonight we're talking live about some of our re-reviewed bottles and what made them so special. Mark will be providing a quick blind review, Dr. Scotch will make an appearance, plus scotch in the news and more.
This week we released a twofer of Famous Grouse and tonight, we thought it would be great to discuss what's in a blend and do a few blend comparisons. We also have a special 25-year-old blend to review live. It should be a fun show!
An Interesting cover for this month's Whisky Advocate. "Start your own tasting club". That got us all thinking about how many clubs we're a part of on Facebook, Instagram and more. So many out there and so much knowledge - but how do you start one? What efforts are needed? If you build it, will they come/drink? Let's discuss this together on this week's Thirsty Thursday.…
This week's review has brought a lot of comments about the price and "hype" of scotch or whiskey in general. For this week's topic, we'll discuss the power of marketing and how it can contribute to your overall price.
There is a ton of information to talk about when it comes to Barley. Different strains, taste differences, climate changes and so much more. This week, we'll have an in-depth discussion on Barley and how it feeds our beloved scotch distilleries.
During our reviews, we talk a lot about the effects of ABV and how it can help persuade you for your next bottle purchase. During tonight's show, we'll discuss ABV and the effects on taste.
A lot of discussion from our Monkey Shoulder this week has brought up a few topics to discuss for this Thirsty Thursday live show. We'll answer these questions and we'll put Monkey Shoulder to a blind tasting challenge to see who comes out on top.
This week we released Glendronach Port Wood 10 Year Old and found the balance of Port to be just about perfect. It brought up an interesting topic about how easy it is for Port to influence flavors.
It's that time of year, time for each of us to post our top 5 scotches of the year. This year, we also picked out a S4D scotch of the year. Let us know your thoughts on our picks below and thanks for hanging with us this year.
