Matt Frary - PhotoAre you looking to make the most of your affiliate programs? Do you want an advertising model that engages users and offers a large flow of traffic? Then consider using incentive-based advertising. This marketing modelling is highly effective at generating consumer engagement, leads and sales for businesses.

If you are looking to get the most out of your affiliate programs then invest 20 minutes to listen to this edition of Chaos Makes Sense where your host Kimberly Henrie interviews Matt Frary, Chief of Chaos, at SmarterChaos, and Fehzan Ali, the co-founder and CEO of AdscendMedia.com. In this edition they discuss five reasons why your company should be trying incentive-based advertising.

Listening to this podcast will help you understand a new source of visitors to boost your online revenue.

How Does Incentive Advertising Work?

Guest Fehzan begins the show by giving a short background of Adscend Media. The company was founded in 2009 as an incentive marketing platform and are known primarily for being a Cost Per Action (CPA) platform. Their main product is a Content Locking Tool known as Adlock. This helps deliver a high volume of leads to advertisers and can monetize any form of premium digital content.

Fehzan continues to explain that incentive advertising is when a user has to engage with an advertisement to receive something of value. There are many different forms of this advertising model. For example users could fill in a form or watch a video and gain a reward. One of the common rewards is unlocking content like an ebook, report, or music.

This model of advertising provides a high amount of traffic and a significant return on investment (ROI). In some cases, the visitors will be unique, therefore this advertising model provides a regular stream of new potential customers, rather than just returning previous visitors.

Matt questions the perception that incentive traffic is unproductive but Fehzan states that if used correctly, incentive marketing can be very rewarding for businesses. He goes on to explain there are a number of networks out there who don’t understand this market and it’s these networks which give the impression this model is a poor return. What is needed is a network who knows the process well and can support the advertisers in achieving the best results.

Fehzan states they work with their advertisers to provide support to maximise the campaigns’ success. This can include the tweaking of their landing pages or other advice as needed.

Another Incentive Marketing Model

Another model for incentive marketing is rewards and points traffic. An example of this style can be seen with Swagbucks.com. In this model users are rewarded with points when they engage with an advertisement. These points can then be redeemed for physical products like gift cards and iPads.

This model is very successful with membership sites or games where users are dedicated and can receive ‘in game currency’ as a reward. It offers repeat business for companies as it relies on a core group of users who take advantage of the offers.

During the podcast Matt and Fehzan answer some of these questions on incentive based marketing:

  • What are the five reasons why your business should consider incentive based marketing?
  • Where does the majority of the revenue come from?
  • Is high engagement all you need?
  • How is incentive marketing similar to airline points from the 1980s?
  • What should you look for in an incentive marketing network?
