Creative mom, and NFT curator Nicole Yap started 8SIAN after seeing the lack of women and Asian representation in the amazing world of Web3. Now she pursues uplifting the minority and putting them on a pedestal for the metaverse to see.

If you’re a woman looking to dip your toes in NFTs, all it takes is a curious mind and the courage to ask.

▶️ Why We Need More Women in Web3 with Nicole Yap of 8SIAN

[00:05:57] Minting and creating NFTs is a journey.

[00:14:36] Nicole’s life motto: Do everything at least once, and grab every opportunity.

[00:23:30] Opportunities are just one DM away and going to events to meet your people.

[00:33:10] Gender stereotyping in a male-dominated space and the need for more women voices in NFTs.

[00:36:43] The 8SIAN name is getting more traction.

[00:42:30] Optimistic creators, regardless of the market state, and a positive future for NFTs

[00:53:24] How women can get started in NFTs.

[01:01:40] Big brands and NFTs.

“My grandpa came from China in the 1940s and settled down in Malaysia. Growing up, I was taught about my culture but was never proud of my identity and never had an interest in learning the Chinese language. I idolized the Western way of life and had unknowingly forgotten about my heritage. After becoming a mom, it struck me:

Our cultural roots are a part of our identity, and our responsibility is to preserve it for the next generations.”

Nicole Yap started exploring the fascinating world of NFTs but was disheartened by what she largely saw as a male-dominated space. She longed for something that resonated with her identity as a strong Asian woman. A moment of inspiration came to her – she felt that the NFT space could be repurposed to celebrate and showcase Asian art and culture.
