How and Why Godly Men Struggle with Sin
Manage episode 407279293 series 3559253
We all know what it's like to be stuck in a rut. No matter how much we want to change, we just can't seem to help ourselves. We keep doing the same things over and over, even though we know they're bad for us.
It's like we're caught in a vicious cycle, and we can't break free. Well, the apostle Paul knew a thing or two about being stuck in a rut. In fact, he wrote about it in his letter to the Romans.
In Romans 7, Paul says that there is a war going on inside of us. On one side is our flesh, and on the other side is our new nature in Christ. And as long as we're alive, these two sides will be at war with each other.
The flesh desires things that are contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit desires things that are contrary to the flesh. So, we end up doing things we don't want to do, and we don't do the things we want to do.
Sound familiar?
Paul goes on to say that the only way to break free from this cycle is through death. Only when our physical bodies die will the war finally be over.
So what does that mean for us?
It means that as long as we're alive, we will always struggle with sin. We will never be perfect. We will never be able to break free from our sin completely.
But that doesn't mean we should just give up and accept defeat. Even though we will always struggle with sin, we can still fight against it. We can still strive to live a life that is pleasing to God.
