Today, October 1, as our Church celebrates the Memorial of Theresa of the Child Jesus, we are first invited to reflect on a passage from the first letter of the apostle Paul to the Corinthians (7: 25-40), entitled “Christian Chastity”. Our treasure, which follows, is from the autobiography of Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus, virgin.

Saint Teresa was born at Alencon in France in 1873. While still a young girl, she entered the Carmelite monastery at Lisieux. There she lived a life of humility, evangelical simplicity, and trust in God. By word and example she taught these virtues to the novices of the community. Offering her life for the salvation of souls and the growth of the Church, she died September 30, 1897

The Story of a Soul, the autobiography of Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, is a spiritual classic and is one of the most beautiful autobiographies ever written. Sister Thérèse wrote this autobiography out of obedience to Mother Agnes of Jesus (her religious superior who was also her sister, Pauline).

In his first letter to the Corinthians Paul warns against divisions within the Church and emphasizes the importance of unity among Church members. He warns members against sexual immorality, teaches that the body is a temple for the Holy Spirit, and encourages self-discipline.
