Passage

Philippians 2:1-4

ESV (English Standard Version)

So if there is any encouragement in Christ, any comfort from love, any participation in the Spirit, any affection and sympathy, complete my joy by being of the same mind, having the same love, being in full accord and of one mind. Do nothing from selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility count others more significant than yourselves. Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.

NLT (New Living Translation)

Is there any encouragement from belonging to Christ? Any comfort from his love? Any fellowship together in the Spirit? Are your hearts tender and compassionate? Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves. Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in others, too.

NIV (New International Version)

Therefore if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Ask Yourself

"How can I take interest in the lives of those facing mental health challenges and support them with compassion and humility?"

Walk it Out

Reflect

  • Meditate on Philippians 2:1-4.
  • Reflect on your relationships and how you can prioritize the needs and well-being of others, especially those with mental health challenges.
  • Consider how you can embody humility and compassion in your interactions.

Engage

  • Take time to reflect and engage with someone in your community or church who may be struggling with mental health challenges.
  • Offer them a listening ear and a word of encouragement.
  • Provide practical support to show you care.

Pray

  1. Pray for individuals experiencing mental health difficulties to find peace, support, and healing.
  2. Pray for increased understanding, empathy, and inclusion for yourself and for your community.
  3. Pray for the courage and wisdom to address fears and motivations compassionately without resorting to quick judgments.
