About Dr. Oh:

KyungJa Oh (KJ) is a retired Episcopal priest and Emerita Professor in Practical Theology at Bexley Seabury Seminary, Chicago IL. She also serves as a priest associate at St Paul and the Redeemer Episcopal Church in Hyde Park, Chicago. Before joining theological education, KJ served as rector of The Church of the Advent, Walnut Hills, Cincinnati and as vicar at St. Chad Episcopal Church in Loves Park, IL. Prior to her ministry in the parish, KJ served as chaplain for the Oncology Department at Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.

KJ earned her MDiv from Seabury-Western Seminary and her DMin from Bexley Seabury Seminary. Her training for the priesthood also includes completion of an ACPE clinical residency program, internships at Episcopal churches in Lynn, MA, Northbrook, IL, Harrogate, England and Sutton-in-Ashfield, England. She studied theology at the University of Cambridge, England, as well as French literature at the Sorbonne in Paris. She earned a BA in philosophy cum laude from Illinois Wesleyan University.

KJ is third-generation Korean-American, born and raised in Chicago. She was confirmed into The Episcopal Church in 1983, having been raised in the United Methodist tradition. KJ has two grown children and two grandchildren. She currently lives in Hyde Park, IL, with her spouse, Melissa.

Named in honor of our Presiding Bishop, the Michael B. Curry Distinguished Preachers Series is made possible by a gift from the estate of Trinity’s longtime historian and faithful prophet, Professor Ann Weikel, the first woman to receive tenure in the History Department at Portland State University.
