On this episode of the SeventySix Capital Sports Leadership Show, Wayne Kimmel interviewed Legendary Basketball Coach Phil Martelli.

Martelli is a legendary basketball coach with a career spanning nearly five decades, known for his leadership, integrity, and dedication. He spent 34 years at Saint Joseph's University, first as an assistant and then as head coach for 24 years, before joining the University of Michigan's basketball program in 2019 as associate head coach under Juwan Howard. At Michigan, Martelli helped lead the team to significant achievements, including a 2021 Big Ten title and back-to-back Sweet 16 appearances in the NCAA Tournament.

Martelli’s coaching success includes numerous postseason victories, with highlights such as guiding Saint Joseph’s to an undefeated regular season in 2003-04 and earning National Coach of the Year honors in 2004. He is the all-time leader in career wins at Saint Joseph’s and has produced multiple NBA players, including Jameer Nelson and Delonte West.

Beyond basketball, Martelli is committed to community service and education through his "Make a Difference" initiative. His goal is to inspire people—whether in schools, workplaces, or sports teams—to create positive change by embracing gratitude, building meaningful relationships, and striving for continuous improvement. Martelli has also been active in fundraising for cancer research and has received several honorary doctorates and community service awards for his contributions.

Inducted into the Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame in 2022, Martelli is not only respected for his coaching accomplishments but also for his impact on the lives of those he mentors.
