I woke up today feeling especially thankful for the people that God has put into my life. These people have helped me in so many ways – they have been there for me to offer support, to lift me up, to encourage me, and to draw me further into my relationship with Christ.

Hi, I’m Maggie Mobley from Sherwood Oaks Christian Church.

In 1929 the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade displayed the longest balloon on record. It was a 178 foot dragon designed by Tony Sarg. Almost a century later, and this massive balloon still holds the title. The dragon balloon was enormous, and it took dozens of people to keep the balloon safe, under control, and on the right path. Similar to the balloon, we need people in our life that we can count on to keep us safe and on the right path, especially on our spiritual path. The Bible tells us that we can and should count on other people, and that we should ask others to keep us accountable.

Exodus 17:12 says “When Moses’ arms got tired... Aaron and Hur held his hands up. Aaron was on one side, and Hur was on the other. Moses’ hands remained steady until sunset.” This is a wonderful picture of Moses seeking help from others to keep him safe and accountable for the work he was doing for God.

We are all in need of others to keep us accountable in our walk with Jesus. We are brothers and sisters in Christ, each with two hands. One hand to help ourselves, and our other hand to help others. Don’t be afraid to ask for someone else’s hand when your own gets tired, or to offer your hand to others. We have so much to be thankful for, and the people that God has put in our life is a reason to give thanks to Him.
