Dustin Poirier has come a long way since his first meeting with Conor McGregor. He won an interim UFC belt, defended it against the UFC ex-featherweight champion Max Holloway, and was able to take on Khabib Nurmagomedov but ended up losing the UFC lightweight title.

Conor McGregor is also, seemingly, in a different place. Let’s remember that McGregor’s come-up was something out of a Disney movie. Kind of. He ran through several big names before ending Jose Aldo’s reign in the UFC.

Now, as a father, Conor McGregor also seems to have a certain maturity to him. His approach to his training camp and interviews shows a different person, not just as a UFC and MMA fighter. It’s what makes him a different breed.

Dan Hooker put on a show with Poirier last year which got him a chance to co-main an event with Poirier and McGregor. He will take on the MMA and Bellator veteran Michael Chandler, the same guy who decided to make weight in case Khabib Nurmagomedov or Justin Gaethje couldn’t make weight for their UFC title fight.

This is a classic case of length versus wrestler, and age versus experience. Chandler is a world class athlete and primo MMA fighter, but Hooker is an absolute beast and loves that he can get down and dirty with the best of them.
