YouTube recently added ROM to youtube analytics. Any time a new stats metric is add to the system it normally means something big. So today I am going to explain to you What Is RPM? How does RPM affect my/your channel? How to improve RPM? How to increase cpm? and CPM vs RPM.

What Is RPM? - RPM is a simple metric that compares your total revenue against your views. It's calculated by multiplying all your revenue reported in YouTube Analytics (including ads, YouTube Premium, Channel Memberships and Super Chat and Super Stickers) by 1,000, and then dividing it by total views in the same time period.

RPM means revenue per mille, and tells you how much you earned per thousand views. To calculate your RPM, your estimated revenue is divided by your total views in the same time period.

Your estimated revenue includes revenue from ads, YouTube Premium, memberships, Super Chat and Super Stickers. This is the actual revenue that you earned after YouTube's revenue share.

Total views is defined as all views, including views that weren't monetised.

Because RPM is calculated with your share of the revenue and includes views that weren't monetised, it's typically lower than the playback-based CPM.

What is CPM? - Cost per 1000 impressions (CPM) is a metric that represents how much money advertisers are spending to show ads on YouTube. You'll see a few different CPM metrics in YouTube Analytics: CPM: The cost an advertiser pays for 1,000 ad impressions. An ad impression is counted any time that an ad is displayed.

Playback-based CPM means effective playback-based cost per mille, and tells you how much advertisers paid per thousand monetised playbacks.

To calculate your playback-based CPM, the total revenue from ads is divided by estimated monetized playbacks. An estimated monetized playback happens when a viewer sees at least one ad impression when watching one of your videos.
