Il vasto e perdurante interesse suscitato da Francesco d’Assisi – vissuto a cavallo fra il XII e il XIII secolo – scaturisce dalla sua continua tensione verso una prassi che realizzi il modello di vita proposto dal Vangelo. Sulla figura di Francesco si sono stratificate le interpretazioni più disparate e contrastanti; ciò si deve alla scarsità e all’eterogeneità delle fonti storiche, ma anche al fatto che spesso sono state lette in modo ingenuo e capzioso. In questo podcast, frutto di un esame critico delle fonti, Franco Cardini – autore del libro Francesco d’Assisi (Mondadori) – ci restituisce un’immagine viva e affascinante del Povero d’Assisi, senza semplificarne gli aspetti problematici ma lasciando spazio a una narrazione acuta e avvincente.

Franco Cardini è professore emerito di Storia medievale presso l’Istituto italiano di Scienze umane e sociali / Scuola normale superiore e Directeur de Recherches nell’École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales di Parigi, nonché Fellow della Harvard University.
