Hammer Films enjoyed a rich heyday in the late 1960s and early 1970s making a series of late-night classics, such as The Vampire Lovers, Horror of Frankenstein, Dr Jekyll & Sister Hyde, and Dracula AD 1972. And Phil Campbell and Brian Reynolds were there, runners on set working with veteran actors such as Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing and Patrick Troughton, and young Hammer stars such as Ingrid Pitt, Madeleine Smith, Dennis Waterman and Ralph Bates. Having written a wonderfully gossipy memoir ‘Running Scared’, Phil and Brian spill the beans on what it was like to join this factory of horror in the late 1960s… --- ‘Running Scared’ by Phil Campbell and Brian Reynolds is packed with great stories and loads of wonderful photos. Check out PeverilPublishing.co.uk to get your hands on a copy. Starring Phil Campbell and Brian Reynolds. Music: Come Back To Us (Elias Trevino) and Dream On (Hirschmann) - Audio Network. Produced by Greg Lewis. Production manager: Jon Harry. Other voices: Caoimhe Lewis.…

Welcome back to Talking Film for the second part of our interview with actor Norman Eshley. So, why did Norman not want to kiss Mia Farrow? How did a leading stuntman teach Norman to ride a horse? And which popular television actor did Norman feel was badly affected by fame? In this episode Norman recalls working with Mia Farrow, Richard Fleischer, Nosher Powell, John Thaw, Dennis Waterman, George Cole, Nigel Stock, and many more. And he talks about productions including The Sweeney , The Professionals , Warship , and Secret Army . Having starred in The Immortal Story – one of the last films directed by Orson Welles – Norman went back into the theatre. But then he got another call from his agent. Richard Fleischer who had recently made The Boston Strangler and 10 Rillington Place was preparing a new thriller, See No Evil . Starring Norman Eshley. Music: Come Back To Us (Elias Trevino) and Dream On (Hirschmann) - Audio Network. Produced by Greg Lewis. Production manager: Jon Harry. Other voices: Caoimhe Lewis.…

Actor Norman Eshley was painting the ‘No Smoking’ sign at the Bristol Old Vic when he had a phone call from Orson Welles’ office. Within months he was filming ‘The Immortal Story’ with Jeanne Moreau at the great director’s home in Madrid. There aren’t many actors still around who can describe what it was like to work for Welles – but Norman has a huge amount of (sometimes slightly rude) memories. Starring Norman Eshley. Additional notes: ‘The Immortal Story’ was filmed in Paris and Madrid between September and November 1966. It was released in May 1968. It starred Orson Welles, Jeanne Moreau, Roger Coggio, Norman Eshley and Fernando Rey. Music: Come Back To Us (Elias Trevino) and Dream On (Hirschmann) - Audio Network. Produced by Greg Lewis. Production manager: Jon Harry. Other voices: Caoimhe Lewis.…
