St. Denis Medical shares some of its DNA with shows like The Office and Abbott Elementary, mockumentary-style single-camera shows portraying the goings-on at somewhat skewed workplaces. With his background in sketch comedy, David Alan Grier was certainly an inspired choice to star as one of the fictional hospital’s emergency room physicians. And he spoke about how he’s a big fan of the mockumentary format, especially since today’s TV audiences have grown up with “reality” shows that took themselves way too seriously.
