Multiple state officials in North Dakota have expressed optimism about incorporating artificial intelligence (AI) into their agencies, but they also have concerns. The North Dakota Health and Human Services Department, Secretary of State's Office, and Governor's Office presented lawmakers with their current use and potential future applications of AI. While the state's election processes do not currently use AI, the Deputy Secretary of State mentioned the possibility of using AI in customer service and fraud detection. The Deputy Commissioner of the Health and Human Services Department highlighted the importance of maintaining patient information security while using AI for external messaging and determining program eligibility. The officials emphasized that AI would not lead to job reductions but allow employees to focus on critical tasks.
