I baptize with water those who have repented of their sins and turned to God. But someone who is greater that I am is coming, so much greater that I’m not even worthy of being his slave and carry his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.
Well it’s the year 2021 and in this verse we know that John was preparing the way for Jesus, and Jesus already came, the question is…what can we learn from this verse today.
What expectations are you giving people with your message, with your leadership, and with your life?
We live in an age in which people want to be influencers as a career. The glamour and popularity of being an influencer is very attractive and enticing. But there is tremendous responsibility when you influence someone. You have to ask yourself, I’m influencing people to do what? To be what? To believe what? To trust who?
John was the first Christian influencer…but it is worth noting that even John was influencing people not to follow him, but to keep seeking for someone greater. In this case Jesus. Most influencers today are pointing to themselves as the end all be all source of knowledge in a specific niche.
Imagine building your social media following to millions of people. To then give them all away to someone else. That’s what John did. He led everyone towards Jesus Christ.
Who can I trust?
3 Signs of a trust worthy christian leader
1. They are humble = they don’t lord over with their knowledge and wisdom
2. They want what’s best for you even if it means losing you as a student, follower, member or mentee
3. They will always point you to God
