In this episode we speak with Joe Mazur, an Economist and Economics professor at Purdue University. Joe is a long-time friend of mine, having started in Investment Banking with me before realizing his calling was elsewhere. He’s also, without a doubt, the smartest person I’ve ever met.

Joe’s story is one that I hear often, whereas he had an interest when he was younger but didn’t think that path was practical. It all started when his Dad came home from a meeting one day and told Joe how he met a person from a Think Tank. Joe thought the idea of thinking through problems all day sounded amazing but figured that can’t possibly be a real job. So, he took the practical route and pursued a career in Finance. But, after a year of working on mergers and acquisitions in Investment Banking, Joe found his career to be unfulfilling. It was at that point that he determined to forge his own path and pursue a career in economics. And he hasn’t looked back since! Joe now teaches economics and conducts his own research in the field of industrial organization.

If you’re interested in the field of economics, if you’re more of a cerebral person, or ever thought about a career in teaching, this is a great episode for you.
