EPISODE 29: Kayla Franchesca - Women's Hockey in Asia
Manage episode 293157125 series 2929935
Although she started off in the Philippines, our guest for this weeks episode, Kayla Franchesca is now in Australia playing hockey and training. Kayla experienced the very beginning of hockey in the Philippines. During a time when there were less than 10 women in the entire country interested in hockey, Kayla became passionate about the sport. Since then it has grown in the Philippines to the point of having a national hockey team; all of this change has happened in a relatively short amount of time. Kayla's story is important because it represents a scenario in which our increasingly globalized world has begun to change sports around the world. In the past we would not expect a hot country like the Philippines to consider something cold like hockey and, in the past, you would be right. In today's world, though, this is no longer the case. A passion for a sport knows no bounds or country boarder. Kayla does a great job speaking to this. Thank you to all you listeners for your support, it is because of you that we are able to do this. Also, thank you to Kayla for her wonderful interview. For the record, Globally Ballin officially supports D2 the Mighty Ducks as the best movie (not just sports movie) in history, no questions asked.
