In this episode, the JustPolitickin team - Hip Hop Lobbyist, FeezyDagr8, The Alaina Show and King Shelly - discuss the controversy surrounding H&M’s “Monkey in the Jungle” hoodie and The Culture’s reaction to this advertisement. We discuss the impact this had had on race relations in history along with transparent lack of diversity at the management and marketing arms of H&M along with their blatant disrespect by only offering slim fit clothing, something most people can’t wear. During the conversation we bring up the recent Dove and Walmart ads, and black people’s reaction to these advertisements by protesting via meme’s instead of withholding dollars. Our conversation highlights everything from the look of the models in advertisements along with the impact this plays in the community. In This Episode, We Ask: Thoughts on H&M’s controversial “Monkey in the Jungle” hoodie? Should we have been offended from H&M’s sizing options prior to the hoodie? Could H&M have picked a better looking model for this shoot? Were the parents wrong for justifying the shoot? Is your view view on “what’s racist” determined on where you are raised? Why didn’t we protest Walmart and Dove for their racially insensitive advertisements? Should we care about these racist ads exist if they become comedy via memes? Is the culture too sensitive about these type of advertisements? What can we do to push the culture forward? Did you enjoy the podcast? Let us know what you thought about the H&M “Monkey in the Jungle” hoodie. How do you think we can stop these issues from happening with major corporations in the future?
