You would think that while standing behind a podium in Detroit, Michigan trying to court voters, a presidential candidate would not badmouth a city to its own residents. That’s what Trump did yesterday. Speaking at the Detroit Energy Club, Trump rambled on for nearly three hours. He took the opportunity to express his dismay over Vice President Kamala Harris’ “60 Minutes” interview, and said that if she’s elected, the entire country “will end up being like Detroit.” Here’s the quote: “The whole country’s going to be like — you want to know the truth? It’ll be like Detroit. Our whole country will end up being like Detroit if she’s your president. You’re going to have a mess on your hands.” That did not go over well with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer who responded to Trump on X, writing “keep Detroit out of your mouth. Detroit is the epitome of ‘grit,’ defined by winners willing to get their hands dirty to build up their city and create their communities—something Donald Trump could never understand. So keep Detroit out of your mouth. And you better believe Detroiters won’t forget this in November.” We will look at that story as well as the latest poll numbers from swing states when we welcome journalist and political analyst Michael Shure to the show. In light of the suffering in Florida following hurricanes Helene and Milton, we’ve decided to suspend Friday Fabulous Florida this week out of respect for people going through a really hard time. We bring you instead: Stories from the sky The Culture Blaster, Michael Snyder, will swing by to fill us in on what’s worthy of our time at the movies this weekend.
