Day 310 of the Holy Bible One Year CHALLENGE. In Hebrews 6:13-7:10, the author speaks about God's promise to Abraham, emphasizing how God swore by Himself to bless Abraham, ensuring the unchangeability of His purpose with an oath. This offers hope and encouragement to the followers, likened to an anchor for the soul. The passage then transitions to Melchizedek, a mysterious priest-king from Genesis, who met Abraham. Unlike other priests, Melchizedek's priesthood is unique and eternal, not based on hereditary ties. Abraham gave him a tenth of everything, which illustrates the greatness of Melchizedek's priesthood, even greater than that of the descendants of Levi, who also receive tithes from the people according to the law. This comparison sets the stage for the discussion on the priesthood of Jesus, which is in the order of Melchizedek—superior and eternal. Hebrews 7:11-28 argues that Jesus' priesthood, according to Melchizedek's order, is superior to the Levitical priesthood, offering a perfect, lasting sacrifice once for all, unlike the continual, insufficient sacrifices of the Levites. Jesus, perfect and eternal, intercedes for humanity, ensuring a better covenant with God.
