A special episode this week. The Urban Dictionary defines a “Pub Test” as “an Australian term to describe the collective opinion of everyday Australians”. What doesn’t Pass the Pub Test is not asking for help when you need it and with National Mental Health Month coming up in October, Bicks and I thought we’d take a break from normal programming to talk not so much about “mental health” but “mental fitness”. From the same Brand Nexus Productions that brings you The Pub Test Podcast, Dan has just recorded another podcast about the sport about surf boat rowing called “Day For It” – see the link below if you’re interested in having a listen. In this first episode Natasha Tunney and Dan spoke to Gus Worland who founded Gotcha4Life and the 24 Hour Row where clubs from around Australia and the world row on an ergo – a rowing machine - for 24 hours straight to raise funds for mental well-being. What we liked about what Gus said was not to talk about “mental health” but “mental fitness” – just as if we’re not physically fit, we do exercises and go to trainers and physios to get physically fit. Gus says it’s the same for “mental fitness”. So, for this week’s Pub Test Podcast, Bicks and Dan have chosen to play you the full interview Natasha and Dan did with Gus Worland – he’s a top bloke, can tell a good yard and is best mates with Hugh Jackman. I think you’ll get as much out of the interview as we did and we’ll be back to our normal programming in a fortnight. And if you want to find out how you or someone you know should get mentally fit, visit Gotcha4Life.org.
