Manage episode 356644371 series 3314356
How much do you know about the history, architecture and culture of Reading?
The RG10 Podcast talked to local legend Terry Dixon, a Reading native who has so far spent six years of his retirement running themed walking tours of his home town. Even those familiar with the county town of Berkshire are sure to discover something new on one of Terry's Reading Walkabouts.
Terry has devised 16 different routes, with two more due to be added this spring. Subjects include Edible Reading, Reading Architecture, Women of Reading, Crime and Punishment, Ghosts of Hallowe'en and Huntley & Palmer's 200th anniversary. New themed walks are added every year by popular demand.
We learn about the sources of Terry's inspiration, the enjoyment he finds in connecting with people from near and far, and the pride he takes in having so far raised over £12,000 for around 15 mainly local charities.
Listen to discover the truth about the Forbury Lion and its sculptor, and just as importantly, which Huntley & Palmer's biscuit has earned its place as Terry's favourite ...
