On the Secret Witch Show today our guest is Salena Walker. Salena is a dedicated Welsh herbalist deeply rooted in her ancestral heritage and native herbal practices, has nurtured a thriving herbal clinic since 2015, expertly growing a diverse range of herbs to benefit her patients and students. With over two decades of teaching experience, her true passion lies in empowering individuals through knowledge, enabling them to cultivate and craft their own herbal remedies.

In this episode we explore the deep-rooted connection between humans and nature through the lens of herbalism, and how we can harness plants, more magically, to heal ourselves. We delved into the topics of rewilding, the spiritual and energetic archetypal power of plants in self-healing, and the gifts to be found in embracing the traditional, non-linear, Feminine herbal wisdom approach with plants - versus a more masculine, clinical way of working with herbs - exploring a more intuitive way we can begin to heal ourselves (and others) as the wise women of the village.

What You’ll Learn from this Episode:

  • Herbal medicine is deeply rooted in tradition - it’s not actually ‘alternative’, it was original medicine - and we can ‘reactivate’ our innate and ancestral wisdom for self-healing

  • There has been a masculinised over-scientification of herbal medicine which can deter women from trusting their feminine, intuitive relationship with plants, and leave them feeling under-confident in their gifts

  • Each individual has an innate capacity to connect with plants for healing - and we don’t need to outsource our healing to others, but others do make good guides into our deeper wisdom

  • As aspiring wise women, we hone our gifts by learning to work with self-healing - embodying our skills before helping others, like medicine women would have

  • Herbs are potent not just physically, but also emotionally, spiritually and energetically - they are spirit guides, and are living beings with unique individual souls and properties - we can begin to learn from them, as teachers, if we treat them like friends

  • Reconnecting with nature and its cycles offers a way to healing and reconnection with our deeper wisdom for healing on all levels - we can begin that by going into the wild, and beginning to cultivate a relationship with plants
