Earlier in July, we had callers on our open-line who shared their distress surrounding navigating public transport. One of our callers had shared the challenges facing e-hailing drivers, how some were being compelled to use the Shesha App through illegal “stop-and-go” and being fined by taxi associations. We had several operators call in to share their experiences and their concerns on lack of regulations to protect drivers. Last week, another caller spoke about how she and a group of colleagues had been harassed by a private security company that was deployed to deal with taxi violence. The group of co-workers were stopped before leaving Pietermaritzburg. In this hour, we get updates since these initial calls and hear feedback from subsequent meetings on how the industry can work amicably to ensure the safety of passengers and operators.
