Welcome to the Tidal Podcast - episode 1!

To kick things off, we have Kim HIll, who was in The Black Eyed Peas. And then she quit.

The NY Times OP Doc on Hill set a record 10M views while empowering women around the globe. She shared the stage with the late Biggie Smalls and co-wrote Tupac's "Mamas Just a Little Girl," on the multi platinum Grammy nominated album, Better Dayz. She sang on Jane's Addiction “Superhero”, theme song for Entourage and has written TV campaigns for Target and Old Navy. She starred in the award winning indie film, In The Morning, appeared in Sofia Ford Coppola’s film, and On The Rocks with Rashida Jones and Bill Murray to name a few. While she’s most recognizable as the original singer in The Black Eyed Peas, Hill broke records with her indie release Sugarhill, crystalizing her sound in a movement she helped define.

But it wasn't until 2020, when Hill turned her creative efforts towards textile and furniture design, that she felt all of the stars align. She began weaving macrame onto vintage outdoor chair frames and it took off like wildfire. Her chair sculptures have been in exhibits, commissioned by multidisciplinary artists like Derrick Adams and adorn the decks of The Rockaway Hotel. The line is called Hazel and Shirley, an homage to her late grandmother and mother who were textile designers and supported all of her aspirations. This addition pivoted her natural body care line NEXT OF KIM into a lifestyle brand; which has been featured on NBC, Fox 5, Elle and Allure Magazines.

Hill personifies what happens when you stop mixing records and start mixing textiles and she’s here today to talk to us about what it means to make waves of impact when you bet on yourself.

Enjoy!

xx
