68. Celebrating 98 Years of Life with My Amazing Grandma
Manage episode 421237656 series 3573964
I recently had the opportunity to go back home to celebrate my grandmother's 98th birthday! She had 70 people come in from all around to help her celebrate.
She grew up in small town Iowa, like me. But, unlike me, she has 11 siblings. She grew up without electricity, having to boil water on the stove for baths, and an outhouse for a bathroom. Her story of country living in the 1920's is a lot like you might imagine, yet which is still hard to truly grasp.
When going out meant hitting the dance floor to polka music, playing cards, and sharing laughs and memories with good friends.
Listen to find out how her milkshake brought a certain boy to the yard ;) and how she spent her hard-earned money as a secretary. You can tell we are cut a from the same cloth.
I don't want to spoil much more, but she dives into living through WWII and the difficulties she faced along with what her daily life looked like. I hope you enjoy listening as much as I enjoyed talking with her. I can't wait to interview her again on her 100th birthday!
