Social media networks like Facebook, Instagram, X (formerly known as Twitter), Snapchat and Tiktok are the top sources of information and communication for teenagers worldwide. Unfortunately, some of them have used those platforms not to connect with their peers or to track their favorite interests but to put themselves - and their friends - in dangerous and sometimes deadly situations. The dark side of social media, and how its misuse has often cost families their children, is portrayed through a desperate father’s battle to discover who killed his beloved son - and why he died - in the compelling thriller The Post, written and directed by Justin Hunt and co-starring Angus Benfield. Justin and Hunt will join me shortly to discuss the film on this week’s podcast. The Post, which as of this recording has debuted in very limited release, stars Benfield (who also co-produced it) as Jett Sanders, a man whose existence is immediately upended when he and his family see a viral video of their son Jake (played by Zachariah West) being violently attacked by a group of high school football players. Frustrated with local police’s slow-walking of the investigation of Jake’s murder, and exasperated by school officials’ insincerity towards him, Jett begins an aggressive search for his son’s killers, but when the suspects - including megastar quarterback Dickey Burnham (played by Justin’s son Lantz Hunt) - become victims themselves, Jett discovers that his son’s death and the video of his brutal demise is part of an even more disturbing conspiracy.
